The Jaca Ice Pavilion is an unique sporting installation in this country. It has two ice rinks, one Olympic size, and another for leisure skating for children under 11. This duality makes it possible to combine sporting use and competitions with other cultural and leisure activities –allowing Jaca to bring the passion and emotion of ice sports to a wide and diverse public.

The spectacular building, a landmark of sporting architecture in this country, is a modern and avant-garde structure, winner of an ideas competition in which some of the nation’s most prestigious architects were invited to participate. The new building stands out for the shape of the ring dome structure made of a membrane that alternates opaque steel with glass. Its creators describe it as a “drop of water”, which evokes the elements of the Pyrenean climate and makes it blend harmoniously with its mountain surroundings.

There are no façades and the roof curves down to the ground. To avoid sudden changes in temperature, the dome has a greater transparent surface area on the northern side, while the southern side is better protected from the sun. The pavilion has two ice rinks, one Olympic size and another smaller rink for other uses. It is the first venue in Spain with two ice rinks.

The ice rink is open every day to the general public so that everyone can enjoy the exciting sensation of skating on ice. The grand interior space is multi-use and can host all types of events – conferences, fairs, exhibitions, presentations… It’s the perfect complement to the other winter sport installations of the nearby Astun and Candanchu ski resorts.
