The town hall of Hecho bought Casa Mazo in order to make it into a museum. The restoration work was faithful to the original structure of the building which is a typical example of traditional Hecho architecture. Today it is an Ethnological Museum providing an insight into traditional ways of life in Hecho which have since disappeared from its everyday life.

The building is just a few metres away from the Main Square in Hecho. It is rectangular in shape with thick stone walls and small windows. Of particular interest are the two windows on the main façade which are each divided into two sections by stone mullions, the roof made of locally made flat tiles and the impressive inglenook chimney. The main doorway with a carved wood lintel leads in to the two interior levels.

On the ground floor, a large number of tools and tackle used in daily working life are displayed, painting a picture of life in days gone by. Among these are utensils used in agriculture, livestock raising, cheese and cottage cheese production, bread-making and those used in daily household chores.

The top floor is mostly taken up by a surprising and impressive inglenook chimney decorated in the traditional style, with all the objects and utensils of a typical Hecho kitchen. Especially interesting is the bell-shaped inglenook which gives rise to the chimney stack seen before from the outside. Other everyday objects and the typical Hecho costume can also be seen on this floor.

Both floors are decorated with a surprising collection of photographic images from the early 20th century, taken by the first class photographer Ricardo Compairé.
