Ath soum d’Ania, Broches, Brochas, demons e furias (On the summit of Anie, warlocks, witches, demons and furies). These ancient beliefs were substituted by a fascination for the summits and the limestone cliffs of the Cirque - the Anie Peak (2504 m), the needles of Ansabère, Billère mountain, the Table of the Three Kings. Lescun is still a place of great importance for “Pyreneeism” and conserves its agricultural and pastoral traditions. The summits, forests, meadows, bushes, farms and fruits of men’s labours create landscapes which are highly photogenic.
In the village, gardens overflow with flowers that decorate the streets in springtime. The banks of minor roads that lead to farms are covered in purple wild flowers (carnations, lungworts, orchids) and yellow ones (poppies, primroses), which demonstrate the floral diversity of this Pyrenean valley. The street that leads to the church is typical of these mountain villages – narrow and on either side, stone houses with thick walls and small windows, drinking fountains, water troughs... The rounded headstones in the cemetery announce the proximity of the Basque Country. The hike has been worth it!
