This building, made of stone and wood and with a roof of flat brown tiles, is a faithful example of the most important and specific elements of the popular architecture of Ansó. Casa Morené was once the home of a couple with a son and four daughters. The austerity of its interior shows how hard life was in these surroundings with meager resources and a harsh climate.

On the ground floor there is an entrance hall (“solero”), a kneading room and the stable with a manger and farming tools. On the first floor there is a hallway (“cambra”) and a spacious bedroom with a large wardrobe (“lacena”). The kitchen, with its chimney, hearth and wooden bench (“cadiera”), and two bedrooms with iron bedsteads and wardrobes, occupy the second floor. Finally, the attic (“falsa” or “sabaya”) acts as an insulation chamber for the rest of the house and is used as a grain store, drying room or general storage room.

Casa Morené is a perfectly conserved example of a Pyrenean house. These were much more than a simple living space for people but defined an institution which was essential to the social makeup of these mountainous areas. Each house had a name which reflected either the origins of its owner, his trade or a nickname related to his physical appearance, as in this case. In this way, each individual was known as belonging to a specific house. Casa Morené is now used for occasional temporary exhibitions or for workshops and training sessions.
